25.12.19 - Scenic Tour
While the locals were hard at work with final preparations and work on the boat, Eric and Duncan joined an old school friend Alan on a scenic tour of Cape Town.
They spent the morning visiting old houses, schools and neighbourhoods, University of Cape Town in the afternoon, and then a trip right to the end of the Cape of Good Hope and back in the evening.
Cape Town is a stunning city with truly breathtaking views and scenery. This was only improved by the stories of old told by Eric and Alan of times spent surfing, camping, diving, skating and plenty of getting up to no good at each of these sites.
The highlight of the day was at UCT. By chance the geology department was open and Eric and Alan got to once again explore their old classrooms, lecture halls and prac rooms. The Head of the Department, Professor Philip E. Janney, happened to also by in his office and gladly led us on a tour, opening up the lecture hall and prac rooms so Eric and Alan could sit in the very same seats they sat in over 35 years ago.
